LeRoy W. Nellis founded Give Back to America.org in 2000 to recruit volunteers to mentor high-risk students in Austin, Texas. He developed a passion for mentoring high-risk students when, as Budget Director for Travis County, he toured all the Travis County jails with the elected Sheriff.

On these visits, he asked the inmates what Travis County should do to reduce the number of inmates. Almost unanimously, they recommended getting involved with the children at an early age to keep them out of the criminal justice system. This is because once someone enters the system, it is extremely difficult to get out.

Mr. Nellis contacted the Austin Independent School District and was assigned Frederick, a kindergarten student at Allen Elementary in far East Austin! Mr. Nellis mentored Frederick through middle school until he moved out of Austin. Frederick graduated from high school and attended college and now is a successful citizen. Mr. Nellis has mentored 1-2 students every year since 2000!

Additionally, he served on the board of the Seedling Mentoring Foundation for 7 years and the American Red Cross of Central and South Texas for 4 years. He is a cerified public accountant with BBA and MPA degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. His passion is to recruit as many volunteers to assist non-profits in each community providing service to those less fortunate.
